CON-GRAD-ULATIONS!

SEGA’s much anticipated, ninth graduation took place on Saturday, September 25th. With a total of 58 students in the Form Four class, a total of 294 students have now graduated from SEGA since its first graduating class in 2013.

It was a fabulous, lively celebration, filled with entertaining activities by the students that included a fashion show, songs and dances. Highlights were provided with inspirational remarks by Madam Headmistress Elly Sarakikya and the Guest of Honor, Felistas Kalomo, from the NGO Childhood Development.

SEGA staff looked their best in matching blue fabrics. The stars were the Form Four graduates who radiated beauty, confidence and achievement in their elevated uniform designs and accessories. The graduates received a yearbook with each of their photographs which you can view by clicking here.

The program was followed by a hearty lunch of meat, rice, vegetables, cake and soft drinks. Photographers and a videographer were present to preserve photo memories and to livestream the event. You can view portions of the live-streamed event by clicking here.

Other gifts they each received were a t-shirt donated by NM board member Angela McManus, a water bottle donated by NM supporter Craig Johnson, a khanga and gifts from the parent representative. In addition, they each received a mathematical set to help them on their upcoming, final exams. The top performers in each academic subject also received recognition.

“The graduation was wonderful, especially seeing that all the students have been able to reach From Four. Normally, we are used to seeing most girls in other schools not able to reach this level because of pregnancy and coming from economically disadvantaged families. So for them to reach this stage, has been a great moment for them, and it's all due to the support they have been getting from SEGA. To me, SEGA is safer than most schools. If it were not for SEGA, I think most of these girls would not have made it this far. Graduation is a big accomplishment.” Sir Ahmad Luambano, Deputy Head of School.

Continuing Support After Graduation

SEGA’s support of graduates doesn’t end when they leave school!

To help ensure their successful passage to the next phase of their life they can apply for scholarship funds to pay for post-secondary education and internships. These funds are used to pay for certificate programs in nursing, teaching, business administration, agriculture, A-Level (advanced-level high school) and some university degrees.

Throughout the entire application and educational transition, students work with SEGA’s Career Development Counseling Team for assistance with applications and to ensure that the programs they are pursuing are safe and reputable. Once placed, the team visits every graduate to check in on her progress at her new school or job.
