Nurturing Minds Announces New Climate-Progressive Initiative

Nurturing Minds is excited to announce our new initiative to become a climate-progressive organization that recognizes the importance of sustainable practices in today’s world. We recognize the intersection between climate change, social justice, gender equality, and education. This is incredibly important to Nurturing Minds because women and girls are disproportionately affected by the impacts of climate change, and education is a key factor in helping them to adapt and to build resilience to these impacts. Girls and women often bear the brunt of the impacts of the climate crises, particularly in countries like Tanzania. By ensuring that girls and women have access to education and opportunities, we can help to create a more sustainable and equitable future for all. Read more here

Over the last 15 years, we have taken steps to reduce our carbon footprint, and now we are continuing our commitment to reduce our carbon footprint generated by visits to the SEGA Girls’ House. We are aiming to have a sustainable visitor experience, and to achieve this we have partnered with Carbon Tanzania, a leader in carbon offsetting and climate change solutions. Carbon Tanzania invests in community-led conservation projects that protect forests, wildlife, and the livelihoods of local communities. To read more about Carbon Tanzania follow this link. Offsetting our carbon emissions that cannot be eliminated or reduced is important because carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases are the primary drivers of climate change. Climate change is a global crisis that poses significant risks to human health, natural ecosystems, and the economy.

Together, Nurturing Minds and Carbon Tanzania will work to achieve carbon neutrality for all visitors to the SEGA Girls’ School. Carbon Tanzania will work with Nurturing Minds to measure our carbon emissions and develop a comprehensive action plan to reduce them. This plan will include strategies such as energy-efficient practices, switching to renewable energy sources, and offsetting remaining emissions through verified carbon credits such as offsetting the emissions generated by our international flights to Tanzania starting in July 2023. Through this partnership, Nurturing Minds is not only taking responsibility for its impact on the environment but also contributing to the preservation of natural habitats in Tanzania.

We hope that Nurturing Minds' commitment to sustainability and social responsibility is inspiring and that our partnership with Carbon Tanzania is a testament to our dedication to creating a better world for all. By striving to be carbon neutral in our Visitor House operations, we are hoping to serve as an example for other organizations to follow, and contribute to a brighter, more sustainable future.
