SEGA is the Solution: Khadija’s Story

2023 marks the 15th Anniversary of Nurturing Minds and SEGA! One of the ways we are celebrating this important milestone is through a monthly blog series titled “SEGA is the Solution”.

Young girls are most heavily impacted by lack of education, poverty and climate change. A striking body of evidence demonstrates that organizations like Nurturing Minds and SEGA are the solution to break the cycle of poverty, create prosperity and combat climate change. Each month we will be spotlighting one of SEGA’s graduates so you can see the impact that SEGA’s holistic approach to education has had on their lives.

Khadija, SEGA
Class of 2019

SEGA supports every girl in each stage of their life, enabling us to keep going and never give up.”

If it wasn’t for SEGA, would you be where you are right now?

My life before SEGA was a life with no dreams or goals. I remember not thinking about my future; and I didn't know any better. SEGA made a big difference in my life. I was no longer a quiet girl, but one with big dreams! However, I didn't take anything for granted. SEGA taught me to work hard to achieve my dreams. At SEGA, my teachers told me that nothing was impossible if I put myself into it. SEGA supports every girl in each stage of their life, enabling us to keep going and never give up. I even got Division 1 on my Form 4 exams!

After graduating from SEGA, Khadija became a UNITE Scholar and continued pursuring her dreams by attending A-Levels at Mringa Secondary School, where she graduated in 2022. With support from SEGA’s Continuing Education Scholarship Program, Khadija is now attending Mzumbe University.

What is your education status?

Currently, I'm enrolled at Mzumbe University in Morogoro pursuing a Bachelors degree in Accounting and Finance in Business Sectors.

How did you decide to pursue a degree accounting and finance? Where did that dream come from?

I decided to study accounting and finance because I have a dream of becoming an accountant and a businesswoman. I was inspired by an accountant's ability to solve economic issues at the organizations they work for. SEGA helped me learn various skills related to accounting and finance in addition to helping me identify my potential and goals. Once we had those dreams and goals, all we had to do was work hard to achieve them.

How was life before SEGA and how is life now?

My life before SEGA was one without dreams. It was a life in which I could not hope to stand on my own. Now that I’ve been able to study, I can see myself as someone who has many skills and useful knowledge. Therefore, I can now do various things like continuing my education and starting a business, improving myself financially.

My life now shines and I can see myself in a good position in the future.
