SEGA is the Solution: Caroline’s Story

2023 marks the 15th Anniversary of Nurturing Minds and SEGA! One of the ways we are celebrating this important milestone is through a monthly blog series titled “SEGA is the Solution”.

Young girls are most heavily impacted by lack of education, poverty and climate change. A striking body of evidence demonstrates that organizations like Nurturing Minds and SEGA are the solution to break the cycle of poverty, create prosperity and combat climate change. Each month we will be spotlighting one of SEGA’s graduates so you can see the impact that SEGA’s holistic approach to education has had on their lives.

Caroline, SEGA
Class of 2018

“I thank SEGA for everything; the lessons I learned, the love I received, and all their support.

After Caroline graduated from SEGA in 2018, SEGA's Continuing Education Program allowed her the opportunity to pursue her dreams by furthering her education.

What are you doing now? If it wasn’t for SEGA, would you be where you are right now?

I'm now at the Institute of Social Work getting my degree. If it wasn't for SEGA, I might be back at home doing now, so I thank SEGA for supporting me through my educational journey.

What is your education status?

I'm currently pursuing my BA in Labour Relations and Public Management and expect to graduate in 2025.

How did you think about studying Labour Relations and Public Management? Where did that dream come from?

I learned through SEGA that through hard work and studying, I can reach my goals. My dream is to become a lawyer and I think that studying Labour Relations and Public Management can help me reach that goal.

How was life before SEGA and how is life now?

Before SEGA, my life was hard. My mom is a single mother, and for a while, we didn't know what to do or how to afford basic things like food and clothes. But my mom is a fighter; she did everything she could to help me get an education, so when SEGA appeared, we were happy to know someone was there to support me and our dreams.

I thank SEGA for everything; the lessons I learned, the love I received, and all their support. My commitment is to graduate and become economically independent!
