Change Our World, Educate A Girl

Nurturing Minds in Africa is working with its Tanzanian partner,

SEGA (Secondary Education for Girls' Advancement), to build and develop the Sega Girls School.

The Sega Girls School is a secondary residential school targeting bright, motivated

girls who otherwise would not have access to secondary education due to extreme poverty.

Naomi's Story

"My name is Naomi. I was born in 1995 in Singida and I am now 15 years old. In my family there are 3 children. I am the only girl. I am also the first born and I live with my grandmother who is jobless so depends on casual labor/piecework. My mom lives in Singida and my father in Arusha. I dropped out of school in 2007 when I was in grade 6 and it is because grandma couldn't pay for my education. After dropping out of school I was just at home.

I heard about SEGA from people who saw that SEGA is an organization that educates girls who could not afford being at school due to different problems. Grandma followed up and then got the forms of SEGA. Then I did the exam of SEGA and I was selected. I am very happy to have this chance and I will use it effectively and may God help me in my studies. After my studies I would like to be a doctor. My heartfelt thanks to SEGA and God bless you."

Naomi is flourishing at the Sega Girls School,

as her academic report shows:

Naomi is the best student in Form One academically and behavior wise. This has resulted in her being elected the Discipline Prefect of Sega Secondary. She is a quiet but determined girl whose wishes are to have the best performance possible in everything she does.

She enjoys her stay here at Sega, although sometimes she misses home a lot. She is performing well in almost all subjects.
